Bilateral diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in May 2017, until then, there has been   no resident or non-resident diplomatic representation between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Rwanda. On January 3th, 2018, His Excellency the Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Tanzania was accredited at the level of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to represent the State of Qatar as a non-resident in the Republic of Rwanda. The Embassy of the State of Qatar in the Republic of Rwanda has opened in July 14, 2021.
